Girlfriends Ep.2 (10/8)

Girlfriends
Episode 2: Oct. 8

Aaron receives notification that his National Guard Unit is being called to Iraq. While Joan has at least a hundred reasons to be upset that her fiance' is being called off to war, none of them appear to have anything to do with his safety or well-being. She's more concerned with being "married and happy" and having her man taken from her.

The crew throws a party for Aaron, and his buddies William and Darnell bid him farewell with thoughtful gifts...a helmet liner, a bulletproof vest, and a story of a good friend who died in Iraq. Ummm...let's leave the parting gifts to the womenfolk from now on.

On the trip to drop Aaron off at the base, Joan detours to Mexico to "hang out" until the war is over. Aaron was sleep and though it was made to look like an impulse decision by Joan, I'm fairly certain she drugged him. She rolls up into Mexico looking for a 'safe house' that Lynn directed her to. She then informs Aaron that his new name is Juan. Hers is Maria. Juan suggests that they get married in Mexico but Maria backs out deciding that this just isn't the way. The have some sort of emotional embrace but the channel went out long enough for me to miss what was said but I did catch her apologizing for being selfish. The next scene cut to Joan crying alone in the kitchen.

In the meantime, Mya finds a bag of weed (the gateway drug) hidden in Jabari's old dresser. During the investigation to determine how Jabari got on "the dope" she finds out that Darnell bought the sack back when they were separated and he was depressed. They decide that Jabari will never know the truth and treat him to Magic Mountain to make amends for false accusations.

Lynn announces to William and Monica that she signed with one of the best music managers in the business. She convinces them to throw her a party because Joan is too busy but no one shows up. She never mentions who the manager actually is and doesn't say much else about her music career and newfound happiness. Hmmmmm.

At the end of the show Lynn, Monica, and Mya visit Joan to keep her company. Through all her sorrow Joan still managed to find time to bake "Lynn's favorite vegan cupcakes" to celebrate her big news. Now, I'm not exactly sure what a vegan cupcake is...but I'm sure it's a vegetarian's dream.
